History of Angers Loire Airport
Opening
The airport opened on September 2, 1998. It replaces the old Avrillé airport which dates back to 1908 and was surrounded by urbanization.

Operation of commercial lines
The airport receives commercial flights from several companies, but these connections will not become sustainable.

Closure of foreign regular lines
The air control service at the control tower has been shut down by the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGAC). Which forces foreign companies (like British Airways) to delete their lines.

New commercial line
From 2017, a new commercial line between Angers and Bastia is opened by Air France HOP, operated every Saturday during the summer season. Due to the success of the first two years, the company is increasing its offer for the 2019 season. However, the liaison is then interrupted due to the COVID-19 crisis.

The Management is entrusted to the company Edeis
The airport’s development has been strengthened as a result of a player specialized in airport infrastructure taking over.
Edeis also ensures the maintenance of infrastructures, the operational management of flights as well as the supervision of facility safety.
Finally, in a logic of territorial development, Edeis and the community collaborate closely to promote the airport as a real economic lever for the entire Angevin territory.

Public service missions
Establishment of a pelicandrome
In collaboration with the SDIS of Maine-et-Loire, a pelicandrome is created on the airport site.
It allows the fight against fires increasingly present in the region.

The airport during the pandemic
During the global pandemic, the airport played a major role for health travel. Indeed, the airport has allowed the transport of patients throughout France and has shown its usefulness to the public service.

Home of the Elektro Tour
Angers-Loire Airport recently hosted a stage of the Elektro Tour, an ambitious aeronautical project aimed at promoting sustainable aviation.
This air tour not only crosses France, but also targets symbolic stopovers: this project has completed the first crossing of the Channel in a certified electric aircraft!
